There are so many onsen to try, and it might be a good idea to get a wooden Onsen-hopping Pass (tegata) that is sold for 1300 yen, which provides admission for a period of 6 months, to the baths of three different ryokan. Kurokawa Onsen is the perfect place for nature lovers: the valley is covered in green and it's a great place for photography and walks in nature.

How to Get to Kurokawa Onsen
The nearest station to Kurokawa Onsen is JR Aso Station. It takes about 50 minutes by bus from JR Aso Station. Another way to get to Kurokawa Onsen is by bus via JR Aso Station from Kumamoto Airport, which will take about 1 hours 50 minutes.
The highway bus runs 4 buses per day between Kumamoto City (JR Kumamoto Station, Kumamoto Sakuramachi Bus Terminal etc.) and Kurokawa Onsen.
