A tour of the seven hells where fumaroles and hot water vigorously erupt from the ground. In admiring the hells, the UmiJjigoku (sea hell), Chinoike Jigoku (blood pond hell), Tatsumaki Jigoku (tornado hell), and Shiraike Jigoku (white pond hell) have been designated nation scenic spots for their superior colors and formations.

  • Touring from Umi Jigoku
    ■Nearest station: Beppu Station
    ■Bus
    ・West Exit, JR Beppu Station→About 20 minutes by Kamenoi Bus No.2, 5, 9, 24, or 41 for Kannawa.
    Bus stop: Umi Jigoku mae or Kannawa, 1 minute by foot.
    To go to Chinoike jigoku from Kannawa, take the No. 16 bus and get off at Chinoike Jigoku mae bus stop

  • Touring from Chinoike Jigoku and Tatsumaki Jigoku
    ■Train
    Beppu→Kamegawa Station
    (about 5 min.)
    Nearest station is Kamegawa Station.
    Tatsumaki Jigoku is about 25 minutes on foot.
    ■Bus
    Take Kamenoi Bus No. 26 for Kannawa from Kamegawa Station, and get off at Chinoike Jigoku bus stop.
    (about 7 minutes,)
